it’s wonky summer shop update

my online shop opens on june 16th @ 12pm est!

here’s a bit of the behind the scenes at how this collection and summer shop update came together.

( also, if you’re new here, i’m jamie - i make pots and i’m selling them online now. you can read this blog post for more about my process :) )

i make all of my pieces either in my apt or at my local pottery studio most of this collection was made in the month leading up to the update!

i usually start my making process by doodling my lil’ heart out - drawing the forms i hope to make, jotting down glazing ideas, and making a rough timeline for how to get it all done by my end date.

( so if you’re ever like β€œ why is a cup more than $20 ” it’s because it took, at minimum, a month to complete lol )

i wanted this collection of handmade ceramics to be playful yet soothing - a chance to explore new forms and revisit old ones in a new way.

throwing on the wheel is one of the more simple parts of this whole process, and also one of my favorite parts too! when making this collection of ceramic goodies, i made sure i left room to play. just telling myself i need 8 short tumblers and leaving the vibe of each set of two up to me in the moment! some ended up being curvy, squiggly, or straight and i love that.

the firing and glazing steps are the hardest for me. at this point, i just want to snap my fingers and see them finished, but i was able to enjoy some bits of this part by coming up with new designs to try - like, this silly β€˜i like me’ cup that flew into my brain one night and felt like the affirmation we all need.

every batch of my work feels like a new little facet of my exsistence that i’m uncovering and i love that. each one speaks to something new i’m experiencing, colors i’m craving, and forms i’m enjoying.

this summer collection is a culmination of shapes/colors that i’ve been fine tuning all year and i’m so excited to share this iteration with you.

we are all constantly evolving and i like to think that these ceramics are evolving right alongside me.
