the first collection of the year
last year i began implementing quarterly shop updates into the mix, and it was a great way for me to create small, focused batches with a generous turnaround time. i decided to keep that up this year and wanted to slowly build a collection that, like spring, felt bright, calm and mostly playful. so after completing my piece for the orlando museum of art in late february, i immediately switched gears to focusing on this first solstice update of the year.
my sketchbook has been filled with silly swirls, starbursts, flowers, squiggly patterns, and lines as of late so i pulled from that to make a batch that embraced texture and didn’t take itself too seriously.
in working with clay i have found freedom in knowing that i don’t need others to validate my life as a working artist by taking me seriously; i actually only need to make what lights me up and forget about the rest. this ceramic collection felt like a timely reminder that what i’m doing is enough, and implementing play into my daily practice will keep me close to the child in me.
the glazing phase is the most challenging for me, as i can tend to be indecisive and struggle with choosing which piece gets what design/color. after a few days of overwhelm, and pushing the date back for this launch, i was able to land on a mixture of colors and designs that i’m so pleased with!!
this collection goes live on my website on march 27th, 2026 and i’m really looking forward to keeping things playful all year long.
